Swatch: Leighton Denny - Steel Appeal.

Steel Appeal - 'A neutral grey that complements black perfectly and has a soft shimmering tone'

Just a quick post.
The weather is rubbish today, its so dull and rainy, trying to get decent photos was almost impossible. Thats not dents/smudges on my nails, it's just reflections. This is 2 coats of Steel Appeal, the 1st coat is quite thin and watery but it evens out with the 2nd coat. I loved this colour last year but looking at it bores me now, theres nothing special about it (to me), I dont even have much to say about it really, its just ok.

As with all Leighton Denny polishes, it dried quickly and was super glossy.

Again, it's just reflections.

I got fed up after about 8 hours and reached for some glitter, I've definatley got the glitter bug at the mo.

2 coats of Steel Appeal, 1 coat of Rimmel Disco Ball
I'm halfway through disco ball already and I've only had it 2/3 week, its just sooooo twinkly! :]

Leighton Denny Steel Apeeal costs £11 and you can buy it from here

November: Used, Abused And Reviewed.

It's rare that I'll ever fully use up anything unless I love it but I have too many half used products hanging around so I've decided to use up what I have before buying any more, It'll help me de-clutter my never ending 'pile of crap' as my mum calls it, and maybe save me some pennies too. This wont be a monthly post, I dont go through stuff that quick but whenever I've gathered a few empties I'll post them here.
So heres a list of what I've managed to use up this month..

Crabtree & Evelyn India Hicks Island Living Spider Lily Ultra-Moisturising Hand Therapy. 50g £8, 100g £14: This came in the September FeelUnique Beauty Box, it has a lovely citrus scent, moisturises well and has a nice thick but lightweight texture and isnt greasy. I've been using it during the day, everyday since I got it. I love that it's free from parabens, lauryl sulfates, mineral oil, and propylene glycol.
Would I Buy It Again? Yes, or atleast try some other handcreams from Crabtree & Evelyn.

O.P.I Nail Envy Original & Matte: 15ml £18.65 Each: As everyone knows, the price of Nail Envy is beyond a joke, but, I do like it. Nail Envy claims to strengthen nails and prevent breakage, it's a treatment that can be used every other day even on top of nail polish then at the end of the week you just remove all the layers and start again. My nails are strong enough at the mo so I only use it as a base-coat (matte) and top-coat (original) everytime I paint my nails. I havent been using them as much lately though since I tried and fell in love with Nails Inc Kensington Caviar Top-Coat. QVC stock these in a duo for £16.75.. Cheaper than just 1 of them retail for!! I've just checked the QVC web site and they still do the duo's but I can only find them in the matte option, maybe they're just out of stock.
Would I Buy It Again? Yes, as a duo.

Philosophy Amazing Grace Hand Cream: I'm not sure of the exact price as it came in a set but I'd say it's somewhere around £12. Now, I've had this hand-cream for about 2 years, used it non stop at first because I was really trying to look after my hands but after a while, the notion wore off and it ended up in the drawer of neglect. Recently Though I've got back into using hand-cream so have been using this every night before bed. Amazing Grace is one of my fav smells.. ever! It's just so clean, fresh and powdery. The texture is great, my hands are left feeling really soft and protected.
Would I Buy It Again? Yes.

NOTD *Essence Update*

Choose Me! and Make It Golden (ring finger)

I'm not really a fan of the ring finger mani but this kills two birds with one stone.

Urgh, my fingers look like battered mars-bars! Anyway.. 2 coats of 'Choose Me!' & 3 coats of 'Make It Golden' and as usual.. O.P.I Ridge Filler as a base with Nails Inc Kensington Caviar Top-Coat. In person, Make It Golden doesnt have bald patches like in the photo, its almost fully opaque and I'm sure it would be with 1 more coat. To me, its the gold version of Revlons Facets Of Fuschia, it is so similar.

I can see myself being the owner of more polishes from Essence. From the 3 I bought, I dont have any complaints.

I've got another photo from a few months back so just thought I'd upload it. I'm sure almost everyone owns this polish by now but here it is..

BarryM - Peach Melba

It was towards the end of summer I bought this so didnt really get wearing it much but I love it. Untill a few months ago I would only wear O.P.I, Nails Inc, Leighton Denny etc as I'd had so many bad results from cheaper brands but BarryM and Essence polishes are on par with the big brands.

Gold Finger: Essence Review.

At the start of the week I was in a chemist and saw an Essence stand, I didnt pay much attention to it though, Essence products have never appealed to me before but there was a few nail colours that caught my eye...

Choose Me!, Irreplaceable & Make It Golden

So, because I'm a nail varnish sicko and the prices were so good (£1.29) I had to buy them, well, mum did. :]

I really wasnt expecting much from these, I loved the colours but thought thats where my love would end... WRONG! The bottles are dinky, 5ml but I prefere that, I hardly ever make my way through a full bottle of colour. The brush applied the varnish evenly, they remind me of the Rimmel Pro Lycra brushes but a bit smaller. Colour pay off was good, all are opaque after 2 coats except 'Make It Golden' but I'll be using that soon for a NOTD post and really dont think it'll take too many coats to get good coverage from it.

Choose Me!: This just reminds me of mermaids, it's so pretty! An almost identical dupe for O.P.I Catch Me In Your Net, which I've had my eye on for a while. It's packed with teeny gold, green and blue glitter flecks

Irreplaceable: A nude with a difference, theres gold shimmer running through it.. loads of shimmer! Sometimes I think that shimmer can ruin the look of a polish and make it look a bit tacky so I tend to stay away from them but this just works. It was really hard to get a photo of the gold coming through but go check it out!

Make It Golden: I expected this polish to be like every other cheapy glitter out there but its packed with glitter. The base is shimmery gold with slightly bigger bits of glitter then larger hex glitter. It looks like wee golden gemstones all over your nails.

2 coats of Irreplaceable with Make It Golden tips.
Not a brilliant photo but its the best I could get. I'll do some swatches of the colours on their own for another post. Is anyone else lovin' Essence polishes? Have you tried any other products from them?

Scrubba Dub Dub: Current Exfoliators

I rotate my exfoliators depending on my mood and how sensitive or dry my face is. The exfoliators I'm using at the min have all came with sets I've bought during the year and they work in 2 diff ways. The first 2 are mechanical exfoliators (cream with a grainy/gritty texture) that you massage around your face to remove the dead skin. first up is...

Benefit B.Right Refined Finish Facial Polish, £17.70

The first thing I noticed, was the scent.. Fresh and cucumber'y. I love the smell but those with very sensitive skin might react badly to it. The grains really do remove all dry patches but I find them to be quite sharp, my skin feels almost raw after using it, nomatter how gentle I am. When Benefit first brought out their B.right skincare line there was a promotion.. buy 2 products and receive a pack of samples, this was one of the samples. I'm glad I got the chance to try it out, if not I probably would have bought the full size and been gutted.

Liz Earle Gentle Exfoliator, 70ml Pump £13

Same type of exfoliator as above but the beads arent harsh, they really are gentle (specially selected jojoba beads) buffing the skin instead of what feels like scraping. The scent and texture is exactly the same as Cleanse & Polish but with beads. Contains purifying eucalyptus, softening cocoa butter and fine jojoba beads. Skin is left feeling clean and smooth.

The next 2 are enzymatic exfoliators...

Elemis Papaya Enzyme Peel, £28.60

This is a smooth cream made with a cocktail of fruit enzymes, it smells gorgeous (pineapple and papaya!) you apply it to dry cleansed skin, leave for 10 - 15 mins then remove. There's no rubbing or scrubbing involved, the fruit enzymes do all the exfoliating for you.

Gatineau Activ Eclat Radiance Enhancing Gommage, £28.75

This one has an orange shimmery thick gel texture and smells like oranges. Apply to dry cleansed skin then massage using circular movements untill the gel turns to liquid, it takes roughly 2 mins then you just rinse it off. I use this one mostly when I'm in a rush or in the shower, its soooo quick.

Enzyme exfoliators are great for anyone with sensitive skin. They are quite pricey though, thats why I buy them in sets, sets can often be found at a cheaper price than just the exfoliator. I recommend all of these, apart from Benefits Refined Finish Facial Polish.

What exfoliators are you lot using?

Passion and Pearl: Gone Dotty

I really need to get myself proper dotting tools instead of just using whatever i find laying around the house.
This is my cack handed attempt at polka-dots, I thought it looked like Minnie Mouses dress and someone else said the toadstools from Super Mario. lol

I used Leighton Dennys Passion for the base and E.L.F Pearl for the dots. The dots are too big for my liking and I'm not loving the random splodges but hopefully proper tools will sort that problem.

And The Winner Is...

Aloha Girlies!
So, I've reached 50 followers now, time to let you all know who won.
Only 10 people actually entered the Giveaway so everyone who did, had a really good chance. I didnt bother using random.org or whatever it is, I did it the stone-age way and drew names from a hat makeup bag. Right, I'll stop rambling on now and get to the names.

The first name picked was..
The runner up..

Both girls were my first two followers!

I'll email you both now and get the packages posted this week. :]

Yesterdays NOTD: O.P.I Bubble Bath and Rimmel Disco Ball

I'm obsessed with Rimmel Disco Ball, I keep looking through all my polishes looking for colours to layer it over, its definately one of my best recent buys. Glitters are a pain to remove and instead of sitting for ages soakin them off with remover and a cotton pad, I just peel them off. Its quicker and saves any impatience induced tantrums.

Base: O.P.I Ridge Filler
2 Coats Of O.P.I Bubble Bath
3 Coats Of Rimmel Disco Ball
Top-Coat: Nails Inc Kensington Caviar

Disco Ball can be layered untill its an opaque glitter, I've tried it a few times and love how it looks, it also dries quick and because its a glitter it chips less. Not that that matters to me, I still do my nails every other day.

I'm almost halfway through my bottle now, think I might have to stock up.

November Glossybox

I've spent the last week or so stalking the postman, waiting for my Glossybox and this morning it finally arrived. I started ripping it open like someone not right in the head, couldnt wait to see what was in it! When I got it open I just stood there and stared at what was inside, out of all the Glossyboxes I've received so far, this one is without a doubt the worst.

ARBONNE FC5 Cooling Foot Creme, 15ml. (Full Size 118ml £19)
DEAD SEA SPA MAGIK Dead Sea Bath Salts 250g. (Full Size 1kg £5.50)
MONU Skin Perfector 50ml/Full Size £16.25
NAIL ROCK Designer Nail Wraps £6.65
SERGE LUTENS Perfume Samples x2

The only thing I would be interested in using is the Monu Skin Perfector. The nail wraps design I got - I wouldnt wear in a million years! A bag of bath salts doesnt appeal to me either and I just hate gettin perfume samples. I thought the whole point of Glossybox was about getting to try high-end products.... where are they? Fair enough the perfume is expensive but would I buy it? No!

Seriously thinking about cancelling my subscription, not impressed at all and a complete waste of money if I'll only be using one of the products.

Was anyone else disappointed this month?

Just A Quickie! HAUL: E.L.F

This was my 1st order from E.L.F, I've always been put off just because of the prices.. so cheap! I decided to go for it because of the offer that was on (not sure if its still on) If you spent £10 you got free delivery plus a Mystery Box filled with goodies.

Heres what I got..

What I Ordered:
Shimmering Facial Whip (Toasted)
Nail Polish (Pearl)
Professional Shine Eraser
Foundation Brush
Concealer Brush
Natural Radiance Blusher (Innocence)
Waterproof Eyeliner Pen (Black)

What Was In The Mystery Box:
Nail Polish x2 (Twinkle & Golden Goddess)
Shimmering Eye Pencil (Purple)
Natural Bamboo Handle Foundation Brush

I havent had a chance yet to play around with everything but the nail polishes really impressed me, I'm a bit of a polish snob just because theres been soooo many times I've tried cheaper polishes and they've been rubbish, 'Pearl' is really pigmented, I expected it to be a bit wishy-washy but its not at all, Pearl isnt a colour I'd wear on its own but I got it for wearing under glitters. I'm also really loving the facial whip, the packaging had split but I couldnt be botherd to wait on a new one so just squirted it into a wee pot. Tried the waterproof eyeliner pen last night, I rubbed my eye and it crumbled off, the colour pay off wasnt good either but atleast it didnt cost me much.

All together my order came to £10.50, couldnt believe it!
Once I've had a chance to try everything I'll upload some reviews and swatches.

Did anyone else go for the Mystery Box?

NOTD/Swatch: Rimmel - Hot List.

Last week I picked up a few nail polshes in Superdrug. it was, and still is 3for2 across all cosmetics plus free delivery up untill the 24th Dec!

Rimmel - Hot List was one of the colours I got. I already had 2 polishes and couldnt decide on a third so just grabbed it.

The colour to me is a misty purple with a brighter purple sheen running through, the sheen is more obvious under bright lights.

For some reason I thought it would be a good idea to do my nails last night while watching I'm A Celeb Get Me Out Of Here. Not a good idea, as you can see I ended up flooding the cuticles and painting my skin while gagging over Mark eating pig bum!
I love the Rimmel Lycra Pro brushes, they make the polish so much easier to apply (usually), the formulation is great and 2 coats gave full coverage. I mentioned in my other post about Rimmel Hot List being a good Chanel Paradoxal dupe. So, if you love Paradoxal but not the price tag then go for this and save yourself almost 20quid.

It claims to last 10 days but I cant comment on that yet, I'll update this post as the chips appear.

Mask It.

I try to exfoliate twice a week and follow with a mask. Straight after exfoliating is when mask's should be applied as all the dead skin-cells being removed allows the skin to take what it need's from the mask rather than the mask just sitting on top of the dead skin and not being able to do its job properly.

Masks have lots of benefits and with the weather getting colder I've noticed I'm getting random dry patches and my skin just doesnt look as healthy as it should so the 2 masks I'm going to stick with for a while are..

Elemis Exotic Cream Moisturising Mask

Elemis Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Gel Mask

Elemis Exotic Cream Moisturising Mask 50ml £30.70 from here
'a light creamy mask containing a dynamic blend of Mimosa, amino-acid rich Honey, soothing Samphire, Orange and Bergamot. These work together to leave skin super-moisturized and enriched. For optimum penetration of its active ingredients, the mask may be left on overnight.'

I'll be alternating both masks but this one will help keep my skin moisturised. It can be left on for 10mins or overnight I tend to use it overnight, it seems like a waste to wipe it off after 10mins. Once removed, my skin looks brighter, softer and glowing.

Elemis Tri-Enzyme Resurfacing Gel 50ml £46
'This innovative, active gel-mask instantly smoothes and firms the skin for a younger, more radiant complexion.'
  • Retexturising enzymes smooth out skin's surface
  • Targets uneven skin texture, fine lines and blemishes
  • Balances the skin's pH levels leaving it shine free
This Mask Tingles like crazy!! You can actually feel it working and I think thats why I like it so much. Because it is retexturising the skin you need to use atleast SPF30. 8-10mins is all this masks needs and when you wash it off your skin feels like glass! It's honestly one of the best skincare products I've tried. Even after its been removed you can still feel an intense cooling effect. I have sensitive skin so was worried about trying the Tri-Enzyme range but I havent had any reactions.

Both masks are expensive but if you're interested in them then have a look on QVC, it works out so much cheaper plus they do a 30 day money back guarantee, even if you've opened and used some of the product!

What mask's do you love?

Last Week's NOTD And Some Discount Codes.

Leighton Denny - Chocoholic

'Chocolate for the fingertips. Yummy. Classic looks and sheer elegance'

I was having a wee nosey through my nail polish box last week and found some polishes I'd forgotten about or never used at all.. This is one of them. This came in a set I bought about 2 years ago, it has never been out of the box since the day and hour I got it but I was looking around for some more wintery colours so decided to give it a try. Application was easy, fully opaque with 2 coats, lasted around 3 days before there was any chipping and held it's gloss. I really need to start wearing colours before deciding wether or not I like them, in the bottle it just looks like a boring brown but once it's on your nails it looks really chic and works brilliantly with all the tan, camel and nude shades that I'm still inlove with.

Leighton Denny Polishes are £11 and can be purchased from

HAUL: I hate that word.

I bought a few things while I was away and thought I'd show you all..
In Superdrug it was 3for2 across all cosmetics so I got a few things I needed wanted.

L-R
Max Factor, Bewitching Coral.
Benefit Full Finish Lipstick, No Competition.
Estee Lauder, Pure Colour 55 Blushing Creme.

YESSSS, I have a slight lippy addiction at the mo!

NYC Smooch Proof 16H Lipstain, Berry Long Time.

This stain is absolute rubbish, I've used it twice and it has almost dried up. it doesnt last 16 hours, you'd be lucky if it lasted 1 hour.

Swatches in same order as above.
Bewitching Coral and Blushing look very similar in the swatches but they are completely different.
None of these are shades that I would usually go for but I was feeling brave, All 3 lipsticks are long lasting and didnt dry my lips out. Even in the swatch you can see how pathetic the lip tint is, the colour pay-off is almost nada!

L-R

Revlon, Facets Of Fuchsia.
Rimmel, Disco Ball.
Rimmel, Hot List.

Facets Of Fuchsia has been doing the blog rounds lately so I'm sure you have all saw it before, I tried to do some swatches but my cam is rubbish, as you can tell. The polish is black with different sized chunks of fuchsia glitter packed into it. It's so pretty, looks like you've got wee gem stones set into your nails. I needed 3 coats before it was fully opaque.
Hot List is a really unusual colour, it's a good dupe for Chanel Paradoxal! The wide brush applied the colour evenly and the formula was opaque after 2 coats.
Disco Ball impressed me the most, I bought it just for the sake of it but I'm glad I did.

3 coats on top of Leighton Denny - Chocoholic and blurry to show how sparkly it is. It is a cross between glitter and holo, depending on how many coats you layer. I wouldnt really wear it over brown but I just wanted to try it out. It will change any polish you already own, making boring shades all glitzy for xmas.

It really needs to be seen in person.

Beyonce Pulse, on offer in Semi Chem 30ml £19.99

A few months ago I got a sample of this from Debenhams, I tried it on my arm and couldnt stop sniffing it all day. Pulse is more of a summery fragrance, light, fresh, sweet and clean but I dont really care, I wear what I want no-matter the time of year. The only thing I dont like is the bottle, it just looks so cheap, same as most celeb perfumes but I love the scent too much to let a naff bottle get in the way of buying it.

I got a few other things but they arent beauty related so I'll save them for another post.
ciao

November Feelunique Beauty Box.

The day before I went away, my beauty box arrived...

Primed To Party

This is my second box from Feelunique and once again I'm happy with everything.

Emma Hardie Amazing Face Neutral Lift and Sculpt Moringa Cleansing Balm & Dual Action Professional Cleansing Cloth - 15ml.
This is my fav thing from the box, I love love love Emma Hardie! The cleansing balm is multi-purpose.. it cleanses, can be used on lips and cuticles and even left on the face as a treatment. The cleansing cloth is muslin on one side and micro-fiber on the other, it removes every trace of makeup and gently exfoliates at the same time. Your face is left so soft after and my lashes are left feeling really conditioned. This sample is enough for 2 weeks use.

Schwarzkopf Professional OSIS+ Dust It Mattifying Powder - Full Size & worth £9.55.
I havent tried this before, Sooo many people are inlove with this product but it never appealed to me because I dont want my hair to look matte. This dust creates volume, texture and control. I never would have bought it but atleast I'm getting the chance to try it it.

Xen-Tan Deep Bronze Luxe - 30ml sample. 236ml - £21.50
I'm beyond pale and pasty at the min but just too lazy to be slapping on tan. It claims to be streak-free and smell delicious, which isnt something I've experienced with tan in the past. I'm a Xen-Tan virgin so looking forward to try it it out.

Bella Pierre Shimmer Powder - £12.99
Yet another full sized product! :] The shade I got is Gold&Brown and it is GORGEOUS!! I'm so happy I didnt get one of the funky colours that some people got. I've used it almost everyday since it came. The powder glides on like silk and stays put. It almost looks like liquid metal, it's just so pretty and I'm sure it's a shade that would suit everyone.

Goldwell Dualsense Ultra Volume 60 second treatment - 50ml Sample. Full Size 200ml £7.70
I'm not a fan of Goldwell, none of the salons I've worked in have ever stocked it and on the few occasions that I have used anything from the range I've been left less than impressed and this treatment didnt do anything to change that. My hair was left soft and easy to comb but it made absolutely no difference in terms of volume and by the next day, the ends of my hair just felt rubbish. It's a good size sample but I really cant see myself rushing out to buy it.

The sixth item was a sample of Prada Candy.

I think Feelunique is my fav beauty box, I've heard of and used most of the brands before and love the fact that the perfume samples are just thrown in and not classed as one of the items. Also, there is no P&P and as far as I'm aware, it is the cheapest of all the boxes! :]

The FeelUnique Beauty Box costs £9.95

Charles Worthington 40 Day Straight.

I've saw this advertised for a while now, at first I didnt pay any attention to it but the more I see it, the more it sucks me in. (same with everything)

The Blurb:
Get gorgeously straight, smooth and more manageable hair with natural bounce for up to 40 days. Completely safe and easy to apply in just 25 minutes, this patent-pending breakthrough treatment uses Cysteamine, a gentle and effective straightening active that re-programmes your hair memory and tames frizz.  It’s 100% free from formaldehyde and ammonia.  Get the ultra-glamorous results of a professional salon straightening treatment, all from the comfort of your home.

I was glad to see that it's free from formaldehyde and ammonia but my worry is how gentle the straightening active really is. If it tames frizz then thats great but what happens after the 40 days, will there be any damage caused like with a perm? It's basically the same thing, 40 Day Straight re-programmes the hair memory, thats what a perm does too and everyone knows what effect perming can have on the hair.

Does it really do what it says?
Has anyone tried it yet?

I have wavy hair and really want to try this. I dont want flat, thin, poker straight hair but some taming for my wannabe afro would come in handy.

If you want to read more about it then heres the link..

As far as I know, It's only available from Boots. RRP: £19.99

Ps: I'm going away for a few days so there wont be any posts from me for about a week but theres plenty I have to post about when I get home, couple NOTD's, which obviously arent nails of the day's anymore but anywho.. and nodoubt I'll buy more stuff I dont need.

Pps: I'll be uploading photos of the things I got for the giveaway.

During the winter I love having baths so decided to go onto the LUSH site and have a nose at their christmas and halloween collections. Not much caught my eye really. I ordered 4 things that all smell similar, if not the same...

Left To Right - Superstar x2, Candy Mountain, Mmmelting Marshmallow.

Superstar £2.25/100g - 'A strawberry Bath to make you feel really special' I ordered 2 of these so I could keep one in my room. It's Bee-You-Tea-fool!

Candy Mountain £2.35/Each - This is the candy bubble bar that comes in diff shapes/sizes every christmas. Everytime I smell it, I want to eat it and I love how the scent stays on your skin for hours after.

Mmmelting Marshmallow £3.60/100g - Everytime I order from LUSH, this ends up in my basket, I just love it. It has the same fragrance as Snow Fairy and Godmother soap.

If you havent already guessed, I love sweet scents.. bubble-gum, candy-floss, strawberry and whatever else. I'm really not into locking myself in the bathroom with anything overly floral, lavender is a huge no, I cant stand it!

There wasnt anything from the christmas or halloween collections that stood out for me, I expected to see loads of things I wanted but only ended up with 4.

Am I the only one who wasnt impressed?
